Dr. Melissa Sander DDS, MSc (Ortho), FRCD(C)
Dr. Melissa Sander is committed to helping her patients achieve beautiful and healthy smiles at any age. She received her dental degree from the University of Toronto. Following dental school, she was accepted into the prestigious dental residency program at Sunnybrook and Women’s Hospital where she gained experience in the treatment of complex trauma and jaw surgery cases. Dr. Sander’s passion for orthodontics brought her back to the University of Toronto where she completed her Master’s degree in Clinical Orthodontics.
She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and an active member of the Ontario Association of Orthodontics, Ontario Dental Association, and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society (membership reserved for the top 10% of dental graduates in Canada & US). She has held teaching positions at the University of Toronto, Departments of Undergraduate Orthodontics and Preventive Dentistry and has had numerous publications in many peer reviewed journals.
Dr Sander is a Past President of the Hamilton Academy of Dentistry, a volunteer organization dedicated to improving both public health and the practice of dentistry in the community. She also devotes many days each year to continuing education seminars, study clubs and conferences in order to keep up to date on the latest technologies. Dr. Sander was honored at the 2016 YWCA Women of Distinction Awards as a nominee in the Category of Health.
Dr. Melissa enjoys living in Ancaster and supporting the local community whether its through sports sponsorship (Ancaster Avalanche Rep Hockey, Ancaster Titans Soccer, Hamilton Bulldogs,Ancaster Thunder Soccer), Theatre Ancaster Youth Sponsor, Annual Good Shepherd Food Drives, or Brushamania events at local schools. Dr. Melissa is also a Clinical Instructor at the Southern Ontario Dental College and provides continuing education courses for dental hygienists in the field of orthodontics. She also is the current Chair of the Ancaster Business Improvement Area Board which represents the businesses in the Ancaster Village as well as organizes a number of free local community events (A Village Christmas, Farmer's Market, Canada Day celebration). In her free time, Dr. Melissa enjoys traveling, being a member of the Ancaster Ladies Volleyball League, golfing and spending time with family and friends.
